I am an artist and art educator who lives and works in the East Bay. I have experience as a professional artist, scenic painter, graphic designer, and teacher.
ART EDUCATOR
I am an experienced and innovative art educator with a strong fine arts background. My approach to education enables each student to create and think as artists do. I encourage each student to take responsibility for their work and provide an environment free of judgement with access to high quality materials, tools, and knowledge. I support each artist's pursuit of his or her own approach by encouraging students to consider options and to learn from their mistakes. Their engagement in their work, combined with their confidence and skills, allows them work towards something meaningful to them, and to get better.
I have been teaching in both Public and Private Schools in the Bay Area since 2008. I currently teach at Carden Day School in San Jose (a Pre-K through 8th grade Private School), Beach Elementary School in Piedmont (a Public K-5th grade school), and at Hebrew School for the Arts in Oakland.
I have high level of expertise in drawing, painting, color theory, printmaking, ceramics, mosaics, sculpture (wire, wood, paper mache, trash and found objects, paper mache), sewing, textiles, collage, graphic design, typography, stage-set design and scenic painting, and photography
PAINTER
I am interested in how people connect to themselves and their world through place. My paintings are a visual reaction to being in and looking through space, color, and light.
My scenic painting becomes part of a broader experience. My sets provide a sense of place and create a mood customized for each theatrical production. The set becomes part of a living, breathing, entitity and energy which includes contributions from both creators and viewers.
My murals are places where people connect to a place, dream, and are inspired.
